Operational initiative
International expansion through disciplined method.
Market analysis, offer positioning, channels and commercial execution led by a Temporary Export Manager who works inside the company, not in its place.
International expansion needs a sequence of activities beyond attending an annual trade fair: selecting countries and priorities, adapting the offer and pricing, building distribution channels and following sales over time.
A Temporary Export Manager works within the business. KPIs, skills and the ability to develop markets stay with the internal team.
A common mistake is entering too many countries at once with the same offer and too few people to follow them. Inquiries increase while attention is spread thin. After two years, the business may still lack a secure position in any of those markets.
What it produces
A shortlist of countries based on actual production capacity and entry requirements, rather than potential revenue alone. Entering five markets at once often means serving all five poorly.
The work then adapts pricing and sales arguments to each country, identifies channels and distributors, plans commercial activity and defines progress indicators. Trade fairs are one of the tools in that plan.
Export documentation is part of the work. Certifications, labeling and customs requirements differ by market and can determine whether a signed contract leads to a shipment.
Who does what
The Temporary Export Manager works within the business under a written mandate and objectives. They build the sales function and transfer methods for selecting markets and managing the network to the people who will remain.
The business keeps direct relationships with foreign customers from the start. If a sales channel depends entirely on the person who opened it, the revenue remains exposed to that dependency.
